Mining & Critical Minerals Middle East Conference and Expo, the Middle East region’s international critical minerals, commodities, clean energy and low carbon technologies conference and expo will be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 12-13 May 2025 and registration is now open.
It is timely to have this event in the region as critical minerals take centre stage with the clean energy transition and Middle Eastern countries are emerging as major players in this global critical minerals space.
The Importance of Critical Minerals for the Middle East Oil-rich Middle Eastern countries such as Saudi Arabia and UAE are ramping up investment in critical minerals supply chains to diversify their economic portfolios and carve out a stake in the growing industry. This, however, is not about replacing the bedrock of the region’s economic engine away from oil to minerals but to ensure that the region has a ‘seat at the energy transition table’, especially given how geopolitically charged this industry is.
Countries in the region are also rapidly advancing their mineral processing efforts. For instance, UAE is building a state-of-the-art lithium processing plant in Abu Dhabi to produce battery-grade lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide. This development positions the UAE as a key player in the global lithium market and supports its innovation and sustainable development goals. The project will create jobs, stimulate the local economy, and align with the UAE’s commitment to increasing electric vehicle adoption by 2050.
Daniel Radziszewski, Conference Director at Spire Events said, “The Middle East region is strategically poised to take the lead in the global critical minerals and energy transition movement. Beyond just having the capital to finance their ambitions, they are also well positioned politically to be strategic allies to work with the West, China, Africa and Russia. ”
