CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency, has launched a national survey in collaboration with Voconiq to gather insights into Australians’ attitudes towards the mining industry.
The survey — open to all Australians aged 18 and over — aims to shape the future of mining research in the country.
The survey follows CSIRO’s previous surveys in 2014 and 2017, which provided valuable insights into public expectations regarding mining practices in Australia.
This new survey offers an opportunity for Australians, including those outside the mining industry, to share their views on mining’s role in the national economy, its contribution to global development, and its support for the energy transition through low-emission technologies.
CSIRO Director of Mineral Resources Dr Rob Hough emphasised the importance of mining in producing materials for low-emission technologies and global development.
Hough stated: “Conversations generated from surveys like this will help shape the industry’s future, balancing its growth with community expectations. Your insights will be instrumental in guiding our ongoing research.”
CSIRO will use the survey results to inform future mining-related research initiatives, leading to public reports and academic publications.
The survey is now open and will remain so until 11 April 2024. Participants can expect the survey to take around 20 minutes to complete.
All Australians aged 18 and over who have an opinion on mining are encouraged to participate.
