
Summit Minerals (ASX:SUM) has announced significant leadership changes aimed at advancing its Equador Niobium and Rare Earth Elements Project in northeast Brazil.
Dr Matthew Cobb has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer, effective March 10, 2025.
Dr Cobb brings 20 years of mining experience and a PhD in Geology to the role.
His extensive expertise spans exploration, project development, mine operation, and leadership within the minerals sector.
Throughout his career, Dr Cobb has held senior positions in exploration, resource definition, and technical services across multiple commodities and jurisdictions, including Australia, Africa, and South America.
The current Managing Director, Gower He, will transition to the role of Executive Director.
In this capacity, He will continue to provide strategic and commercial oversight, ensuring the successful execution of the company’s projects.
He expressed his support for the changes, stating: “I am confident that Matthew will bring invaluable technical expertise and leadership necessary to take the Equador Niobium Project to the next level.”
In addition to these changes, Summit Minerals has appointed Marcel Mota Reikdal as an in-country geologist in Brazil.
Reikdal brings over 20 years of professional experience in geology and an MBA in Innovation and Sustainability.
His role will focus on providing dedicated, on-the-ground oversight and management of the Equador Niobium Project.
These strategic appointments demonstrate Summit’s commitment to strengthening its operational capacity and accelerating project timelines.
The company also announced that Stuart Peterson has departed from his role as Chief Geologist.
Summit Minerals’ Equador Project is situated in the Borborema Pegmatitic Province, a region known for its significant niobium and rare earth element deposits.
With these leadership changes, Summit aims to sharpen its focus on delivering value through the advancement of this key project.
