Emerging critical minerals producer Cadoux Ltd. has achieved a commercial milestone, with its high-purity alumina (HPA) product completing an extensive customer qualification program in Europe.
The validation was conducted by SAFELOOP, an EU-funded Horizon Europe syndicate comprising 15 organisations across 11 countries.
The project is focused on establishing a secure, Eurocentric supply chain for next-generation, high-performance lithium-ion electric vehicle (EV) batteries.
HPA is a vital architectural material used as a protective ceramic coating on lithium-ion battery separators. Over the two-year validation trial, SAFELOOP partners subjected Cadoux’s premiumHPA to an extensive seven-step technical evaluation, including electrochemical, thermal stability, lifecycle, and safety abuse testing.
The assessment verified that Cadoux’s material enhanced separator heat resistance, reduced material shrinkage at elevated temperatures, and lowered the risk of thermal runaway, meeting strict safety benchmarks under demanding automotive operating conditions.
In the specialty chemical sector, HPA qualification is considered a notoriously high barrier to entry because even minor trace impurities can compromise battery safety.
By navigating this process, Cadoux has demonstrated scalable manufacturing capability and product repeatability, effectively transitioning the ASX-listed company from a technical developer to a qualified potential commercial supplier.
The qualification significantly de-risks the project and establishes a direct pathway toward binding offtake arrangements and strategic project financing.
It also positions Cadoux to advance commercial discussions with downstream customers across other high-growth tech sectors, including semiconductors, specialty ceramics, and LED sapphire substrates.
In the HPA sector, qualification is one of the most difficult and time-consuming barriers to overcome due to the ultra-high purity requirements, consistency demands and application-specific performance testing required by downstream customers.
Cadoux Managing Director Roland Hill said: “The commercial application of premiumHPA is no longer in question.
“Industry has tested it, validated it and accepted it as desirable for commercial use via the successful completion of a comprehensive qualification process.
“This achievement significantly advances the commercial positioning of the project and provides strong validation of our process flowsheet, our dedicated technical team and our long-term commercialisation strategy.”
