The Western Australian government has signed a joint communiqué with Servizi Assicurativi del Commercio Estero S.p.A. (SACE), Italy’s official export credit agency, another step towards expanding its international critical minerals footprint.
The agreement, executed by WA Agent General Rebecca Tomkinson alongside SACE Chairman Guglielmo Picchi, establishes a formal framework for ongoing collaboration across critical raw materials supply chains, clean energy transition projects, and joint commercial ventures.
The bilateral pact builds on a robust commercial relationship, with two-way trade between Italy and Western Australia surpassing AU$900 million in the most recent financial year.
By strengthening ties with SACE, the state government aims to secure overseas capital, streamline investment pathways, and reinforce the state’s position as a dominant global supplier of battery minerals and critical processing inputs.
Mines, Petroleum and Exploration Minister Daniel Pastorelli emphasised the significance of the partnership for the state’s resources sector.
“Western Australia is helping power the global energy transition through our world-leading critical minerals sector,” Pastorelli said.
“As a trusted and reliable investment destination, WA is well placed to build stronger international partnerships that support secure and resilient supply chains.”
He added that the state governmnet looks forward to working closely with Italian stakeholders to unlock new opportunities across the critical minerals and battery technology sectors, creating mutual economic value for both jurisdictions.
The agreement aligns with broader diplomatic and economic efforts between Australia and Italy to secure resilient mineral supply chains amidst growing global demand for energy transition metals.
Under the communiqué, both parties will facilitate direct information exchanges, identify potential project co-investments, and support Western Australian critical minerals businesses seeking entry into European markets.
