Bravus Mining and Resources has awarded Platinum Blasting Services a four-year contract extension for its operations at the Carmichael mine, located in central Queensland’s Galilee Basin.
The renewed agreement extends a long-standing partnership between the two companies that commenced prior to the open-cut thermal coal mine’s inaugural production blast in November 2020.
Under the four-year deal, Platinum will continue to supply comprehensive explosives and deliver technical drill-and-blast engineering support across the site.
Throughout the course of the partnership, Platinum has managed routine production demands alongside short-notice schedule adjustments, campaign blasting requirements and wet-weather recovery efforts.
Platinum’s workforce at Carmichael has expanded considerably over the past four years, with the majority of crew members recruited locally from North Queensland. This local expansion has boosted regional operational capability while securing employment for workers, families and regional communities.
The contract renewal underscores Bravus’s ongoing confidence in Platinum’s operational delivery and reinforces both organisations’ commitment to local employment, safety standards and long-term production outcomes.
Platinum Blasting Services CEO and Managing Director Cliff Gale welcomed the agreement, describing the extension as a strong vote of confidence in the site team’s technical performance and reliability.
“We’re proud to continue supporting Bravus Mining and Resources at Carmichael and to build on a partnership that has been defined by safety, reliability and collaboration since our first blast on site in 2020,” Gale said.
“This extension reflects the capability of our North Queensland team and the strength of the systems, technical expertise and service culture we bring to site every day.”
The announcement aligns with broader regional economic contributions tied to the Carmichael operation. Construction and development of the mine and its associated rail infrastructure have generated more than AU$1 billion in contracts for regional Queensland businesses.
The project has created over 2,600 direct jobs and continues to support thousands of indirect positions throughout the state.
