Elphinstone has launched its highly anticipated EG20 series underground grader, a machine poised to revolutionise haul road maintenance in mining operations worldwide. Building upon the legacy of the UG20M and UG20K models, the EG20 introduces a host of advancements designed to boost productivity, safety, and operator comfort while reducing maintenance costs.
The underground grader plays a critical role in preparing and maintaining high-quality haul and access roads with effective drainage throughout tunnel networks. The EG20’s robust design delivers a significant increase in haulage fleet productivity by reducing equipment tyre wear, extending component life, and enabling faster travel speeds on grade.
Based on the Caterpillar next-generation 120 surface grader platform, the EG20 incorporates all standard upgrades along with Elphinstone’s specialised modifications for underground use. Key enhancements include a reinforced frame, high-strength drawbar, hardened circle teeth for durability, and optional factory-fitted rippers for challenging roadway surfaces. Blade lift cylinder accumulators further minimise blade bounce and component wear.
Elphinstone has prioritised operator safety and comfort in the EG20. The redesigned cab features improved ergonomics, adjustable controls, enhanced visibility, and increased legroom. The Roll Over Protection System (ROPS) and Falling Object Protection System (FOPS) ensure a secure and quiet environment, while low-effort pedals, adjustable seating, and a digital instrument panel reduce fatigue and maximise efficiency. Additional features such as air conditioning, improved storage, and backlit controls support productivity during extended shifts.
The EG20 is powered by the Cat C7.1 ACERT engine, available in Tier 3 and optional Tier 4 Final Stage V configurations, ensuring compliance with global emission standards. Electronic throttle control, engine over-speed protection, and standard Variable Horsepower Plus (VHP) provide consistent power and safety across various operating conditions.
Safety is further enhanced with ground-level emergency stops, fire suppression actuators, high-visibility grab rails, blade and rear-view cameras, and a ground-level fuel fill system to minimise operator risk.
Since its release, the EG20 has seen robust demand, with 15 orders confirmed across Africa, Indonesia, India, the US, and South America in the past month alone. Elphinstone products are supported through the global Cat dealer network and dedicated regional teams, ensuring technical assistance and spare parts availability.
With its comprehensive upgrades, the Elphinstone EG20 sets a new standard in underground haul road maintenance, delivering unparalleled performance, safety, and value to mining operations worldwide.
