Liebherr-Australia has marked the beginning of a new partnership with Gold Fields through the delivery of three new excavators to the Gruyere Gold Mine in Western Australia.
The first two machines, an R 9600 and an R 9400, arrived at the site in early May.
A second R 9600 joined the fleet the following month, bringing the total delivery to three excavators as part of the new agreement between the two companies.
The partnership is expected to contribute to efficient and reliable large-scale production operations at one of Western Australia’s key gold mining sites, located in the Yamarna Greenstone Belt.
“We are proud to welcome Gold Fields as a new customer and to support their operations with our excavators and our dedicated customer support team,” said Trent Wehr, Liebherr-Australia’s managing director for mining.
“This partnership reflects the strength of our mining portfolio and our commitment to delivering reliable, high-performance equipment to the Western Australian gold sector.”
The introduction of these machines reinforces Liebherr-Australia’s growing footprint in Western Australia’s gold sector, an industry where demand for high-performance, highly reliable equipment continues to increase.
According to Wehr, the expansion into the state’s goldfields is part of a broader strategy to support a wider range of mining applications across the region.
“Our expansion into Western Australia’s goldfields reflects a clear focus on supporting a broader mix of mining applications.
“The R 9600 and R 9400 are designed to deliver high material movement rates with efficient fuel consumption and simplified maintenance, which are key factors for operations in these environments.
“Combined with our established service network, we’re well positioned to support consistent performance across the full machine life cycle,” continued Wehr.
Both the R 9600 and R 9400 excavators are considered particularly well-suited to goldfield applications, as they are designed to deliver class-leading payload capacities alongside strong reliability.
These attributes are aimed at helping operators maximise productivity in the demanding conditions typical of large-scale mining environments.
The R 9600 is one of Liebherr’s larger mining excavators, built for high-volume material handling, while the R 9400 offers a complementary capacity suited to a range of loading and excavation tasks.
Together, the two models are intended to give Gold Fields flexibility across different stages of the mining process at Gruyere.
Liebherr-Australia has stated it will continue investing in its expanding fleet across the Western Australian goldfields, with particular attention to service coverage, parts availability and technical expertise.
The company says these areas are central to maximising machine uptime and ensuring customers receive consistent support throughout the equipment’s operational life.
