CIMIC Group subsidiary Sedgman has been awarded a major design, procurement, and construction contract for the processing plant at KGL Resources’ Jervois copper project in the Northern Territory.
As one of the Territory’s most advanced mining developments, the Jervois project is poised to become a key contributor to the global supply of copper, a critical metal driving electrification and the broader transition to clean energy.
Under the agreement, Sedgman will deliver the complete processing facility alongside associated infrastructure and services, while also managing site commissioning and testing. Detailed engineering works and the procurement of critical, long-lead processing equipment are already underway.
The state-of-the-art concentrator is designed to treat two million tonnes of ore per annum. Utilising conventional crushing, grinding, flotation, and thickening circuits, the facility will produce a single high-grade copper concentrate.
The contract builds on Sedgman’s extensive involvement with the project dating back to 2017. Over nearly a decade, the engineering firm has worked alongside KGL Resources across historical testwork reviews, metallurgical studies, pre-feasibility and feasibility assessments, value engineering, and front-end engineering design.
CIMIC Group President and Executive Director Roberto Gallardo noted the importance of the development for the nation’s resource sector.
“The Jervois Copper Project is one of the Northern Territory’s most advanced copper developments and will have an important role in the supply of a metal essential to electrification and the global energy transition,” Gallardo said.
“Sedgman’s appointment demonstrates the value of bringing together engineering, procurement and construction expertise to progress strategic resource projects with certainty and efficiency.”
Sedgman Managing Director Grant Fraser said early involvement provides valuable continuity as the project transitions into execution.
“Having worked alongside KGL on Jervois for almost a decade, our team has a deep understanding of the project, its processing requirements and its development objectives,” Fraser said.
“This early involvement positions us to deliver a safe, efficient and high-quality processing plant that supports KGL’s pathway to production.”
