Azure Minerals Limited’s (ASX: AZS) Tony Rovira has stepped down from his position as Chief Executive Officer, marking the end of a remarkable 21-year tenure with the company.
Rovira, who has been at the helm of Azure since its listing on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) in 2003, played a pivotal role in the company’s recent acquisition by SH Mining Pty Ltd.
The transaction, valued at approximately $1.7 billion on a fully diluted equity basis, represents a significant milestone in Azure’s history.
Under Rovira’s leadership, Azure Minerals achieved several notable accomplishments:
- Successful listing on the ASX in December 2003
- Exploration and development of various mineral projects
- Negotiation and execution of the recent acquisition deal with SH Mining
The acquisition of Azure by SH Mining, a joint venture between Sociedad Química y Minera de Chile S.A. and Hancock Prospecting Pty Ltd, was completed through a scheme of arrangement.
Shareholders received $3.70 cash per Azure share, resulting in the company’s delisting from the ASX on May 21, 2024.
In his parting remarks, Rovira expressed pride in his team’s achievements and optimism for Azure’s future:
“I am very proud to have led a team that achieved so much for Azure and its shareholders. I am also pleased with how we are successfully integrating the Azure operations into SH Mining, and I wish Azure every success in the development of the Andover Lithium Project.”
As Azure Minerals transitions under its new ownership, the focus will likely shift to the development of key assets, particularly the Andover Lithium Project.
The integration of Azure’s operations into SH Mining’s portfolio is expected to create new opportunities for growth and expansion in the lithium sector.
Rovira’s departure marks the end of an era for Azure Minerals, but the company appears well-positioned for its next phase of development under the stewardship of SH Mining.
