Fortescue Metals has delivered record first-half shipments of iron ore of 100.2 million tonnes, keeping it on track to meet its fiscal 2026 guidance of 195 million to 205 million tonnes of ore shipments.
The company shipped 50.5 million tonnes of iron ore in the quarter ended December 31, 2025, lifting first-half shipments to 100.2 million tonnes, up 3 per cent from the prior-year half and the highest first-half total for Fortescue.
Fortescue CEO Dino Otranto said: “It was a record first half, with shipments reaching new highs across our operations.
“This was achieved safely and sets us up well heading into the second half to meet our FY26 shipments and cost guidance.”
The company reported a leading safety index score of 160 and a total recordable injury frequency rate of 1.5 at December 31, 2025.
Hematite C1 unit costs were US$19.10 per wet metric tonne (wmt) in the second quarter, while Iron Bridge Concentrate revenue hit US$122/dmt for the quarter.
Strong cash flow generation contributed to a cash balance of US$4.7 billion and net debt of US$1 billion, after capital expenditure reached US$759 million in the quarter.
Fortescue continued its renewable energy progress with the delivery of its first large-scale battery energy storage system at North Star Junction.
The installation marks the first phase in a planned 4 to 5Gwh rollout of energy storage to support the miner’s decarbonisation strategy.
The company has also installed over 300,00 panels at its Cloudbreak solar farm.
Fortescue is maintaining a pipeline of green energy and technology projects, while assessing project viability and timing in line with customer demand.
“We are fundamentally changing how we power our operations by combining firmed renewable energy, our high-voltage transmission infrastructure and growing electric fleet, led by Fortescue Zero technologies,” Otranto said.
Fortescue also continued to progress studies into the Belinga iron ore project in Gabon, establishing a presidential taskforce to streamline the planning and delivery of an integrated mine, rail and port solution.
