Minister for Resources and Northern Australia, Madeleine King, is currently in Japan to bolster trade and investment in resources and energy.
Her visit aims to enhance collaboration on critical minerals projects under the “Future Made in Australia” agenda.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to secure supply chains and meet net-zero targets through the Japan-Australia Critical Minerals Partnership.
During her visit, Minister King delivered a keynote address at the Australia-Japan Joint Business Conference in Nagoya, a significant event that connects major Japanese and Australian business leaders.
In her speech, she emphasised Australia’s commitment to being a stable and reliable source of resources and energy for Japan, highlighting the importance of the bilateral trade relationship.
Japan is Australia’s second-largest trading partner, with two-way trade exceeding $120 billion in 2023.
Exports to Japan, including LNG, iron ore, and coal, were valued at $90 billion last year. Japanese investment in Australia reached $265 billion in 2023, underscoring the deep economic ties between the two nations.
Minister King‘s visit also includes meetings with executives from some of Japan’s largest companies to explore further opportunities for partnership in critical minerals projects.
This marks her third visit to Japan as Minister for Resources and Northern Australia.
