The Minerals Council of Australia has published a new user guide for its sector-leading Water Accounting Framework to coincide with World Water Day.
The framework provides a consistent approach to understanding water use and benchmark performance, helping companies better manage water risks, harness opportunities, and communicate water use to communities, investors, and others.
MCA chief executive officer Tania Constable said the updated user guide draws on more than a decade of industry experience to provide practical guidance for companies and ensures it keeps pace with changing expectations.
Constable said: “[The guide] demonstrates that Australia’s mining companies are committed to continual improvement in water stewardship.
“Originally developed in partnership with the University of Queensland Sustainable Minerals Institute in 2011, the framework has been included in global water reporting standards – reinforcing Australian industry leadership on water management and transparency.
“The minerals industry is committed to responsible stewardship of Australia’s water resources – it has long recognised water as a precious and shared resource with social, cultural, environmental, and economic values.”
