Western Australia’s Mines and Petroleum Minister, David Michael, will lead a delegation of 16 critical minerals companies to Canada and the US this week.
The mission aims to cement WA’s position as a premier global supplier of materials essential for the clean energy transition, defence, and advanced manufacturing.
The visit will reaffirm the state’s long-standing relationships with Canada and the US. In 2024, Canada stood as Australia’s fourth-largest source of foreign direct investment (FDI), with a stock value of US$84 billion.
Michael will then visit the US, focusing on New York and Washington DC. This engagement builds upon the landmark Australia-US Critical Minerals Framework signed in October 2025.
The minister’s meetings with US industry leaders and stakeholders will focus on integrating WA companies directly into North American supply chains, particularly under the newly emerging “Pax Silica” economic security bloc.
“Western Australia is recognised globally as a reliable and ethical supplier,” Michael said.
“With both Canada and the US working to diversify supply chains, we are exceptionally well placed to meet their needs and deepen collaboration across shared economic and strategic priorities.”
By fostering these partnerships, the Western Australian government aims to transform the state from a raw material exporter into a global leader in midstream processing and energy innovation.
