Alumtek Minerals achieves breakthrough in SCM production

Alumtek Minerals (AM), has recently completed research and development on bauxite residue waste, commonly known as ‘red mud’. As well as developing a process to extract the critical minerals vanadium, titanium and gallium, AM’s process also extracts aluminium hydroxide and a high purity iron oxide. Most notably, AM has developed a supplementary cementitious material (SCM) meeting the stringent Australian Standard AS3582.4. This milestone comes as a result of a Cooperative Research Centres Project (CRCP) grant, showcasing the company's commitment to innovation and sustainability. Red mud is an alkaline by-product of the alumina industry and is usually stored in tailing dams. In cement production, it requires less processing than clinker production, leading to a number of key benefits for miners and cement manufacturers. Collaborating closely with Cement Australia over th... more

Designed with support from Toyota Motor Europe, the 110kVA GEH2 power generator is powered by the same Toyota Fuel Cell System that powers the Mirai FCEV. EODev is a leading French firm that specialises in hydrogen solutions. Toyota Australia made an announcement in October 2023 announcing that it would be working with EODev to construct the generators in Altona and sell them locally through Blue Diamond Machinery (BDM). Additionally, it will export units to New Zealand, where Toyota New Zealand will serve as the distributor. Callachor... more

Sandvik’s Golden Shank delivers unmatched corrosion protection

Sandvik is introducing the Golden Shank, a patented corrosion protection coating for greatly increased service life and lower drilling cost per meter. The shank adapter encounters harsh conditions in many underground mines due to the use of highly corrosive water as flushing media. During its lifetime it must endure challenges such as reduced fatigue properties, stress corrosion cracking and embrittlement. Sandvik’s new Golden Shank is equipped with a patented, low-friction, nickel-plated coating with a polymer top sealant for improved corrosion resistance. Applied throughout the entire shank and flushing slot, except for the striking area, this unique coating minimizes wear on flushing seals and rock drill parts and reduces breakages on other rig and tool machine parts. Field tests confirm 30-100 percent longer product life. Reaching further between service intervals enables ... more
