Asian Battery Metals PLC (ASX: AZ9) has reported encouraging early-stage results from its ongoing regional exploration program at the Yambat Project in Mongolia, with new discoveries at the MS1 and MS2 targets expanding the project’s mineralised footprint beyond the company’s flagship Oval copper-nickel discovery.
The latest findings, announced in June 2025, highlight the district-scale potential of Yambat and reinforce the company’s strategy to develop a pipeline of copper and nickel opportunities in the region.
Recent scout drilling at the MS1 target, located six kilometres southeast of the Oval prospect, intersected a new ultramafic-gabbroic intrusion showing weak sulphide mineralisation.
Downhole electromagnetic (EM) surveys have identified a conductive plate at MS1, suggesting the presence of lateral and deeper mineralised zones.
In response, Asian Battery Metals has initiated a SAMSON EM survey at MS1 to further delineate potential conductors and refine future drill targets.
At the MS2 target, drilling intersected gabbroic rock visually similar to unmineralised zones at Oval, indicating a possible structural linkage and the potential for mineralisation in this area as well.
The company has commenced a ground-based, deep-penetrating SAMSON EM survey at the Oval Cu-Ni prospect, with plans to expand this work to MS1.
Magnetic surveys are also scheduled for MS2 to refine deeper targets.
Managing Director Gan-Ochir Zunduisuren commented on the significance of these results: “These early scout holes at MS1 and MS2 show we are onto a broader mineralised system.
“The discovery of new mafic-ultramafic intrusions at MS1 and MS2 — with mineralisation and EM conductors at MS1 — supports the view that Yambat is a district-scale system.
Zunduisuren suggested that the newly identified targets may indicate a separate mineralised trend similar to Oval, creating several opportunities for future discoveries.
He added that the company will proceed with electromagnetic surveys and prepare for follow-up drilling to best realise the potential of these regional prospects.
The regional program, launched in April 2025, has so far drilled four scout holes (SC06, SC07, CRS02, and CRS03), with initial results confirming the identification of ultramafic-mafic intrusions up to six kilometres from the Oval Cu-Ni discovery.
Remaining assay results from Phase 3 drilling are expected later this month, while the first metallurgical test results from Oval are anticipated in July or August.
The company remains well funded, following a successful capital raise earlier in the year, and is on track to execute its 2025 exploration strategy.
