Austral Resources Australia Ltd (ASX: AR1) has entered into a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Maronan Metals Limited (ASX: MMA) to explore the potential toll treatment of ore from Maronan’s advanced copper-gold and silver-lead deposit at Austral’s recently acquired Rocklands processing facility near Cloncurry in Northwest Queensland.
The collaboration marks a significant step in Austral’s drive to position itself as a regional consolidator and processing hub, leveraging existing assets to deliver value from third-party deposits across the resource-rich Cloncurry mineral province.
Under the MOU, both companies will assess the technical, commercial, logistical and regulatory feasibility of processing Maronan’s ore at Rocklands.
The agreement is non-binding and non-exclusive, and any future transaction will be contingent on due diligence, metallurgical test work and the negotiation of definitive terms.
Austral Chairman David Newling described the engagement with Maronan as highly constructive and aligned with Austral’s long-term vision.
“Simon, Richard and the entire Maronan team, alongside the Austral team, share a belief that Northwest Queensland is one of the most productive mineral provinces in Australia.
“We were impressed by their engagement in our discussions from the outset and are pleased to see a shared vision for the Rocklands asset as an asset to the local Cloncurry community.
“Whilst there is still metallurgical work and commercial negotiations yet to be completed in relation to the MOU, we are buoyed that the company’s assets continue to be attractive to third parties (similar to our alliance with NFM), and that our strategy to be the consolidation vehicle for the region is resonating with both shareholders and the broader community.”
The Rocklands processing facility, which Austral acquired earlier this year, is strategically located to serve the surrounding mineral projects.
Processing ore locally has the potential to generate efficiencies for regional miners and create new economic benefits for the Cloncurry area.
This latest MOU follows Austral’s earlier strategic alliance with North West Minerals (NFM), demonstrating the company’s multi-pronged approach to securing long-term processing partnerships across Northwest Queensland.
By engaging with multiple potential ore suppliers, Austral aims to maximise the utilisation of Rocklands while strengthening its standing as the preferred regional processing partner.
If discussions progress to a definitive agreement, the collaboration could provide a new pathway for Maronan to unlock the value of its high-grade deposit while reinforcing Austral’s role as a central player in the development of the Cloncurry mineral province.
