Black Horse Mining Ltd. has confirmed a new high-grade gold zone at its Mt Egerton gold project in central Victoria, following the reopening of the century-old Sister Rose Adit.
The reopening of the Sister Rose Adit provided direct access to a historical crosscut, exposing a mineralised, west-dipping fault system now named the Sister Rose No. 1 Splay.
Face sampling of the quartz-rich structure in the adit’s southern wall returned high-grade assays, including consecutive samples of 0.60 metres at 10.92 grams per tonne (g/t) gold and 0.70 metres at 10.67 g/t gold. Further sampling along the crosscut walls returned additional gold values up to 1.39 g/t.
Projecting the fault structure down-dip aligns with historical reverse circulation drill hole RSE003, which recorded two metres at 5.13g/t gold from 24 metres depth, roughly 14 metres below the adit floor.
The correlation provides early structural evidence that mineralisation extends down-dip rather than remaining isolated near the surface.
The discovery confirms two distinct mineralisation styles at Mt Egerton: west-dipping fault lodes and traditional bedding-parallel lodes typical of classic Central Victorian goldfields.
Under today’s gold price and with modern targeting and mining techniques, this structure presents a genuine opportunity.
Black Horse Mining Managing Director David Frances said: “This latest work has allowed us to unveil some of the secrets Mt Egerton has been hiding for over a century.
“It has delivered high-grade gold from a structure that was intersected and ignored during historical mining, and it confirms our interpretation that Mt Egerton hosts west-dipping fault lodes alongside the bedding-parallel style — effectively broadening our target inventory across the whole project.”
The company is preparing for a 10-hole, 4,000-metre diamond drilling campaign scheduled to commence in late September.
The program will utilise a track-mounted rig to test down-dip and along-strike extensions of the Sister Rose No. 1 Splay alongside other priority targets.
A LiDAR survey of all accessible historical workings is scheduled in the coming weeks, capturing geological structures alongside the underground development.
