Great Divide Mining Ltd. has started Stage 2 of its progressive restart at the historic Challenger Gold Mine in New South Wales, with heavy mining equipment now being mobilised to the site.
The transition to the next phase of development comes just weeks after the company commenced its first regular shipments of gold concentrate.
The progression follows formal confirmation that the mine’s existing Environment Protection Licence (EPL) remains valid, giving Great Divide the green light to advance its planned open-cut mining operations.
Under the company’s disciplined strategy to recommission the historic asset, the initial operating cash flow generated from recent gold concentrate shipments is being directly reinvested into the Stage 2 development.
Great Divide Mining CEO Justin Haines said the swift advancement of the project reflected meticulous planning and solid execution by the team.
“Only a few weeks ago we celebrated Challenger’s first regular gold concentrate shipments. Today we’re mobilising the equipment for the next stage of the mine’s restart. That’s exactly how we planned it,” Haines said.
“Every stage builds on the one before it. We generate cash flow, reinvest it back into the project and continue building Challenger into a long-life gold mining operation that the Adelong community can be proud of.”
The expansion of activities at the site is also expected to provide an economic boost to the Riverina region.
Haines noted that the commencement of open-cut development would unlock significant employment and commercial opportunities for local contractors, suppliers, and workers as operations continue to scale up.
With heavy machinery currently en route to the site, the recommissioning of the Challenger Gold Mine continues to gather strong momentum, positioning the project to become a sustainable, long-term fixture of New South Wales’ regional mining sector.
