Hawk Resources Limited has executed an agreement for mineral exploration (AME) with the Ngaanyatjarra Lands over its Olympus scandium project, marking a major step toward commencing field activities in Western Australia’s West Musgrave region.
The agreement follows an on‑country meeting with Native Title holders and Traditional Owners, concluding just three months of engagement with the Ngaanyatjarra Council, which the company described as proactive and supportive throughout negotiations.
With the AME now in place, Hawk has begun seeking the required consents from the Western Australian Ministers for Indigenous Affairs and Mines and Petroleum.
The company is also preparing to undertake a cultural heritage survey to clear the project area for exploration. The region was previously surveyed in 2007 ahead of earlier exploration work.
Subject to ministerial approvals, Hawk expects on‑ground exploration at Olympus to begin in June 2026.
Hawk Resources Managing Director Scott Caithness said the rapid conclusion of the AME represented a significant achievement for the company.
“Obtaining an agreement for mineral exploration over Olympus after only three months of negotiations marks a major milestone for Hawk,” Caithness said.
He noted that the on‑country meeting provided Traditional Owners with an overview of the company and its planned exploration activities, while also giving Hawk early insight into access requirements and logistics for the programme.
“The company is now on the cusp of commencing exploration at Olympus which has the potential to be a major new scandium province,” he said.
Project background
Hawk secured an option to earn up to 80 per cent of the Olympus scandium project in October 2025. The project comprises two exploration licences, E69/3987 and E69/3988, covering approximately 309km².
Since initiating discussions with the Ngaanyatjarra Council in late January 2026, Hawk’s focus has been on finalising the AME and progressing the approvals pathway required to begin exploration.
The agreement has been executed by Hawk, Opal Resources and Beau Resources – the licence holder – with Hawk to act as the sole on‑ground explorer.
Olympus lies around 285km west of Yulara and 150km northeast of Warburton in the West Musgrave region.
