K2 Gold has launched a new drilling programme at its fully owned Si2 Gold Project in Nevada, following significant technical reinterpretations that have recast the site’s geological classification.
Situated approximately 59km west of Tonopah and along the Walker Lane Trend, the Si2 Project lies 20km from Allegiant Gold’s Eastside deposit, which boasts reported resources of 1.4 million ounces (moz) of gold and 8.8moz of silver.
The close proximity to these large-scale resources underscores Si2’s exploration potential within one of the most mineral-rich corridors in the western United States.
The latest findings have reclassified Si2 as a low-sulphidation epithermal gold system, marking a pivotal advancement in K2’s understanding of the property.
Earlier exploration campaigns had only scratched the surface, largely focusing on shallow expressions of mineralisation.
Current drilling efforts will (for the first time) target deeper sections, zones typically associated with stronger gold concentrations in similar systems worldwide.
According to K2, the decision to proceed with deep drilling followed months of geoscientific analysis and technical evaluation that suggested considerable untapped potential beneath the surface layers.
The refinement of the geological model has been instrumental in guiding the company’s next strategic move.
K2 Gold president and CEO Anthony Margarit said: “The commencement of this drill programme is a direct result of our technical team’s strength.
“Their work has fundamentally upgraded the Si2 geological model.
“We are now drilling the most compelling targets identified to date – testing both previously undrilled structures and the depths where our studies indicate the most productive levels of the Si2 epithermal system should lie.
“Si2 gives K2 a second, high-conviction discovery opportunity in one of the most proven gold districts in the US.”
The renewed exploration marks a new phase of activity for K2, which aims to unlock deeper mineralisation that earlier programs may have missed.
The company notes that the geological similarities between Si2 and AngloGold Ashanti’s Arthur Project further enhance confidence in the potential for significant discoveries.
The drill programme builds upon K2’s strategic efforts to diversify and expand its gold portfolio across the American West.
In parallel with its flagship Mojave Project, also located in a well-established gold-bearing district, Si2 now represents a complementary frontier for near-term exploration success.
Together, both projects form the backbone of K2’s growth strategy focused on advancing high-potential, underexplored properties in geopolitically stable jurisdictions.
Accessible via road, the Si2 property covers 118 lode claims administered by the US Bureau of Land Management, encompassing a total area of 986 hectares.
The site’s infrastructure and location within an established mining region offer logistical advantages that could accelerate future development should significant mineralisation be confirmed.
By combining modern geological insight with targeted drilling, K2 Gold is positioning Si2 as a promising candidate for Nevada’s next significant gold discovery.
