Los Cerros Limited (ASX:LCL) has started drilling at the Kusi gold-copper prospect, part of its wholly-owned Ono Project in Papua New Guinea.
The 3,000-metre drilling program of about 18 holes will focus on priority ‘drilling areas’ of what is potentially a significantly larger mineralised regional skarn unit or units.
Field work assessing the potential for extensions to the upper limestone skarn and new skarn units continues alongside the drilling program and might introduce additional targets for the current and future drilling campaigns.
Los Cerros Managing Director Jason Stirbinskis said the company was excited to commence its first drilling campaign in PNG.
He continued: “While we anticipate a causative porphyry exists within the area, the drilling program is targeting the high grade oxidised skarns which are modelled to be relatively shallow in the drilling target areas.
“This approach to the drilling program is consistent with the broader company strategy of high impact / high-grade targeting across its PNG portfolio of gold, copper and nickel targets”.
Previous drill and trench results at Kusi include:
- 10.1 metres at 2.39 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from surface;
- 20 metres at 2.89 g/t gold from 107 metres;
- 35 metres at 3.04 g/t gold from 136 metres; and
- 20 metres at 3.84 in trench FPR TR 1.
