Metallurgical test work will soon commence at Global Energy Metals’ Mount Isa Millennium Cobalt project to evaluate the potential recovery of cobalt and copper.
The second phase in the metallurgical work follows the successful first phase of drilling which aimed at confirming historical estimates of cobalt mineralisation. Global Energy Metals has stated that the drilling results ‘correlated well’ with the previous deeper drilling with wide zones of cobalt, copper and gold mineralisation closer to the surface.
The company has also stated that the testing will be used to support and provide further detail on previously conducted preliminary hydrometallurgical studies which demonstrated the potential for saleable cobalt and copper concentrates.
“Commencing the metallurgical program following the very successful first phase confirmation drill program gives us a solid head start on an understanding of the deposit’s metallurgical properties and economic potential for a future feasibility study,” announced Mitchell Smith, President and CEO of Global Energy Metals Corp.
The test work on two 50kg composite samples derived from the recently drilled holes will include head assay and mineralogy with key elements being cobalt and copper. This initial test work is anticipated to take between 6-10 weeks to complete and is likely to lead to additional work that may determine a final cobalt product at Millennium.
