Somerset Minerals Ltd. has confirmed a new, high-grade copper-silver discovery at its Coppermine project in Canada after assay results returned from the first two holes of a maiden reverse circulation (RC) drilling campaign.
The drilling program at the Talisker target intersected wide zones of mineralisation, validating a systematic exploration strategy across a largely blind target concealed beneath a thin layer of glacial cover.
The standout hole, TARC0003, returned 36.58 metres grading 1.62 per cent copper and 11.8 grams per tonne (g/t) silver from 22.86 metres. This included a higher-grade intercept of 9.14 metres at 4.39 per cent copper and 28.8 g/t silver, featuring a peak interval of 1.52 metres at 9.09 per cent copper and 64.6 g/t silver.
Drilled 80 metres away, hole TARC0008 intersected two distinct zones within a broader 79-metre mineralised envelope. Results included 38.1 metres at 1.27 per cent copper and 7.4 g/t silver from 41.15 metres, alongside a shallow 35.05-metre section from surface grading 1.01 per cent copper and 4.7 g/t silver.
Somerset Managing Director Chris Hansen described the initial results as an outstanding start to the program.
“To convert that dataset into a copper discovery with the first two holes reported is emphatic validation of our targeting methodology, and it gives us enormous confidence in the pipeline of the ~20 other analogous targets we hold across the district,” Hansen said.
“What makes this discovery particularly significant is that Talisker is largely blind. There was no historical drilling along the corridor, and mineralisation is concealed beneath glacial cover.”
The discovery follows 17 months of systematic field work, combining regional till geochemistry, airborne geophysics, structural mapping, and soil sampling, which narrowed the search area from 1,600 square kilometres down to a central target zone.
The current drilling program is testing just two kilometres of the 17-kilometre-long Talisker corridor, located four kilometres from White Cliff Minerals’ Danvers deposit along a shared regional fault structure.
With permits already secured for up to 100 holes and assays for 12 additional holes expected in the coming weeks, Somerset retains significant flexibility to rapidly follow up on its initial drilling success.
