St George Mining Limited has expanded its lithium and nickel project pipeline into the Mt Holland region of Western Australia.
St George has entered into a binding agreement which allows it to acquire an interest in lithium and nickel rights of certain tenements within an area covering part of the Mt Holland lithium and nickel province.
Significant lithium occurrences and deposits are located within the area including the Earl Grey lithium project owned by Covalent Lithium, a joint venture between Wesfarmers Limited and Chilean lithium giant SQM.
A potential 40km strike of the Forrestania nickel belt is interpreted to occur within the area, supporting the potential to host nickel sulphide mineralisation.
“We are very pleased to have concluded the binding agreement for this opportunity which relates to part of the world-class Mt Holland-Forrestania lithium and nickel province,” executive chairman John Prineas said.
“As we prepare to resume drilling at our Mt Alexander lithium project in a matter of days, we are also excited to have expanded our project pipeline into one of the most significant addresses in WA for hard-rock lithium and nickel sulphide mineralisation.”
At its Mt Alexander Project, in the Goldfields, St George has made four high-grade nickel-copper-PGE sulphide discoveries and is pursuing a dual-track program of further finds and assessing the significant lithium potential of outcropping pegmatite dykes. Scoping study work into a starter mine is underway. Clean energy metals producer IGO Ltd is a 25 per cent tenement partner at Mt Alexander.
At the Paterson Project, in the Pilbara’s Paterson province, St George is advancing exploration on its wholly owned tenements, where maiden drilling has intersected lithologies known to host copper-gold deposits elsewhere in the province. Visual copper was logged in several drill holes.
At the Ajana Project, in the Northampton mineral field in the Mid West, St George is preparing a maiden drill program to test the base metals prospectivity across its tenements package.
At the Broadview Project, in the Wheatbelt, St George is defining a maiden drill program to test two 25km-long mafic intrusives that are adjacent to the boundary of the South West Terrane.
