Northern Star Resources has reported a solid start to fiscal 2027 with notable achievements, including the completion of the KCGM mill tie-in and the arrival of incoming CEO Suresh Vadnagra.
During the September quarter, the company sold 364,000 ounces of gold at an all-in sustaining cost (AISC) of AU$3,217 per ounce.
All three of Northern Star’s production centres, Kalgoorlie, Yandal, and Pogo, delivered positive net mine cash flows, contributing to a net mine cash flow of AU$210 million for the quarter. Total cash and bullion holdings stood at AU$1.2 billion as of 30 September.
A major milestone for the period was the integration of the KCGM Mill Expansion Project. The legacy plants were shut down on 21 September, with the tie-in to the expanded plant successfully finished on 28 September.
Commissioning is now underway, with Stage II scheduled for early in the second half of 2027 to deliver a 1 to 2 per cent recovery uplift and streamline processing operations.
Suresh Vadnagra, who stepped into the role of Managing Director and CEO on 5 October, noted that consistent operational discipline and execution will remain core priorities as the business ramps up its expanded assets.
“While I still have a lot to learn about our individual assets, we have a high-quality asset base and a strong foundation on which to grow.
“Consistent delivery will be fundamental to our success and will require strong operating discipline, clear accountability and a group-wide focus on costs, execution and capital discipline,” the CEO said.
“My immediate priority is to understand the business in parallel with focusing on completing the KCGM mill expansion safely and efficiently as well as ensuring consistent delivery across the portfolio.”
Group performance for the quarter included 193,540 ounces sold from Kalgoorlie at an AISC of AU$2,919/oz, 117,631 ounces from Yandal at AU$3,687/oz driven by stronger grades at Thunderbox, and 52,720 ounces from Pogo at US$2,307/oz.
Full-year 2027 guidance remains unchanged, with total gold sold projected between 1.5 million and 1.65 million ounces at an AISC of AU$3,050 to AU$3,450 per ounce.
Production is anticipated to be weighted toward the second half of the financial year as the KCGM expansion ramps up to full capacity.
