The Chamber of Minerals and Energy’s (CME) intense mine rescue competition was recently held in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
SMERC saw mines rescue teams compete in nine challenging scenarios designed to improve emergency response skills and knowledge.
The scenarios included team skills, confined space rescue, fire-fighting, vehicle extrication, rope rescue, hazardous chemicals, first aid, incident management scenario and a theory assessment.
CME chief executive Reg Howard-Smith said spectator participation featured strongly over the weekend.
“It was great to see the competition return to a public venue to celebrate the 25th anniversary of surface mine competitions in the Goldfields,” Mr Howard-Smith said.
“The competition highlighted just how important the role of emergency preparedness is within the community and for resources sector operations.”
