Arizona Lithium Limited (ASX: AZL, AZLO, AZLOA | OTC: AZLAF) has made a significant lithium discovery at its Prairie Lithium Project in Saskatchewan, Canada.
The company — focused on sustainable lithium development in North America — identified lithium-enriched samples of 86 mg/L Li in the previously untested Souris River Formation.
The discovery was made during the drilling of Well #1, which was initially an exploration well into the Souris River Formation before being converted into a Duperow production well.
The well achieved a stable pump rate of 500 cubic metres per day (350 litres per minute), with initial pump tests suggesting formation properties exceeding performance expectations.
Paul Lloyd, Managing Director of Arizona Lithium, expressed enthusiasm about the exploration results: “The discovery of the Souris River lithium in Saskatchewan highlights the exploration upside that exists across the project.
“While the team is focused on putting the Duperow into production, understanding where future resources can be accessed on our current land is critical to the long-term security of lithium resources in North America.”
The Prairie Lithium Project, located in the Williston Basin of Saskatchewan, spans 391,000 acres and is one of North America’s largest lithium brine resources.
The project boasts a total lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE) resource of 6.3 million tonnes, comprising 4.5 million tonnes of LCE indicated and 1.8 million tonnes of LCE inferred.
Arizona Lithium plans to continue bringing production and disposal wells online in preparation for production at Pad #1 in 2025.
The company will also further explore the Souris River and Dawson Bay Formations.
The project’s strategic location in a mining-friendly jurisdiction offers easy access to essential infrastructure, including electricity, natural gas, fresh water, paved highways, and railroads.
Additionally, the company’s commitment to using less freshwater, land, and waste aligns with its sustainable approach to lithium development.
This discovery not only enhances Arizona Lithium’s position in the lithium market but also contributes to the long-term security of lithium resources in North America.
As the demand for lithium continues to rise, particularly in the electric vehicle and renewable energy storage sectors, such discoveries play a crucial role in meeting future supply needs.
