St George Mining (ASX: SGQ) has announced an acceleration of exploration activities at the high-priority C1 target within its 100 per cent owned Destiny project in Western Australia’s Eastern Goldfields region.
The C1 target is a large circular magnetic feature spanning 2.1 kilometres in diameter, exhibiting characteristics consistent with a potential mineralised carbonatite.
Recent gravity surveys over the C1 target have confirmed a high gravity signature at the core of the feature, indicating the presence of a dense body.
This geophysical signature, coupled with the prominent magnetic anomaly, supports the hypothesis that C1 could represent a carbonatite or mafic intrusion.
The C1 target bears striking similarities to known mineralised carbonatites in Western Australia, such as Lynas Rare Earths’ (ASX: LYC) Mt Weld Project and WA1 Resources’ (ASX: WA1) Luni carbonatite, which hosts a significant niobium-REE discovery.
Like these deposits, C1 exhibits prominent magnetic and high gravity features and is situated adjacent to the Ida Fault, a major regional crustal structure.
St George Mining plans to conduct a closed-spaced gravity survey over the C1 target next month to further refine drill targets.
The company is prioritising exploration at C1 due to its promising geophysical characteristics and geological setting, which are consistent with late-stage intrusions like carbonatites.
Executive Chairman John Prineas expressed excitement about the potential for a significant greenfields discovery at the C1 target, stating: “We are delighted that our systematic exploration at the Destiny Project has identified exciting targets for carbonatite-hosted mineralisation.
“The C1 target, in particular, has a geophysical signature and geological setting that is consistent with a late-stage intrusion such as a carbonatite.”
Prineas added: “We are prioritising exploration at C1 in light of its similarities to known mineralised carbonatites in Western Australia – such as Mt Weld and Luni. The large scale of C1 supports the potential for a significant greenfields discovery, and we look forward to drilling this exciting target soon.”
The Destiny project is part of St George Mining’s portfolio of clean energy metals projects in Western Australia, with the company focused on making major new mineral discoveries, including niobium, rare earths, lithium, copper, and nickel sulphide deposits.
