St George Mining Limited (ASX:SGQ) has announced significant developments in its exploration efforts at the Myuna Rocks Project in Western Australia’s Ravensthorpe region. The project, owned by Lithium Star Pty Ltd (a joint venture between St George Mining and Amperex Technology Limited), has seen its tenure double in scale, now spanning 546 square kilometres.
The newly granted Exploration Licences E74/789 and E74/790 have expanded the project’s area, with the land package extending over 50 kilometres north-west along a regional greenstone corridor, starting just five kilometres north of the Mt Cattlin Lithium Mine.
This corridor hosts active explorers such as Fortescue, NickelSearch, and Woomera Mining — alongside the spodumene-producing Mt Cattlin mine operated by Arcadium Lithium.
A recent aero-magnetic survey over the project area has identified promising geological and geophysical features for lithium mineralisation.
These include a large late-stage granite intrusion covering 18 kilometres by eight kilometres, which could be a potential source of lithium mineralisation.
Additionally, extensive greenstone sequences adjacent to the granite, along with regional-scale north-west trending domain boundaries, indicate areas of high prospectivity for lithium and gold mineralisation.
St George Mining Executive Chairman John Prineas, expressed excitement about the growth at the Myuna Rocks Project, highlighting the project’s large scale and the newly identified target areas.
He emphasised the immediate need for exploration follow-up, with plans to accelerate maiden drilling to the second quarter of 2024.
Prineas noted that Myuna Rocks’ tenure now rivals that of the Mt Cattlin mine, showcasing its significant potential.
“Importantly, Myuna Rocks covers more than 50 kilometres of a major structural corridor that hosts Mt Cattlin and extends north to IGO’s Forrestania nickel complex. We are fortunate to have more than 50 kilometres of this underexplored belt in our tenure.
“The results of the recent airborne magnetic survey corroborate our belief that Myuna Rocks is prospective for significant lithium mineralisation,” said Prineas.
St George Mining Limited is focused on critical metals for the clean energy future, with projects located near producing lithium and nickel mines.
The company’s exploration and development efforts are supported by increasing demand for electric vehicles and clean energy storage solutions — highlighting the strategic importance of projects like Myuna Rocks in the transition to a sustainable energy landscape.
