Northern Star Resources Limited’s Ramone Gold Project is the first new open pit discovered in nearly 20 years on Jundee tenements, and is located 35km south east of the Jundee Gold Mine in Western Australia.
The company recently awarded a $30 million contract associated with the project, with the 18-month open pit mining works to commence in March 2019.
Under the contract, BGC Contracting will deliver both the initial infrastructure and mining services for the greenfield site.
Services will include the installation of site facilities, drill and blast, load and haul mining, and dewatering services. Additional site works will include the construction of internal haul roads, the establishment of the site workshop, explosive compound and magazines, associated earthworks and site preparations.
The Ramone Gold Project was discovered after intensive re-mapping and geochemical sampling of the whole tenement package. Ramone mineralisation is controlled by a stockwork of veins within a granitoid domain previously considered of low prospectivity potential. However, preliminary Metallurgical Test work shows excellent recoveries above 95 per cent, with Maiden Open pit resource of 1.57Mt at 1.6gpt Au for 81,000oz.
Potential for underground resources have also been identified and are being followed up.
