Rio Tinto has signed a long-term agreement with RevoCast Aluminium Billets to expand the supply of low-carbon aluminium billets to extrusion customers across North America.
Under the commercial agreement, Rio Tinto will exclusively market billets manufactured at RevoCast’s newly commissioned casting facility in Langley, British Columbia.
The facility, which opened in August, boasts an annual production capacity exceeding 80,000 tonnes of 6xxx-series aluminium billet. These products are earmarked for critical extrusion applications across the construction, transportation, industrial, and consumer goods sectors.
The commercial offering combines Rio Tinto’s low-carbon primary aluminium, produced using hydro power at its Kitimat operations, with recycled aluminium processed through RevoCast’s advanced remelting technology.
Designed to maximise energy efficiency and curb emissions, the process provides local manufacturers with direct access to high-quality, lower-carbon materials close to their operational footprint.
The initiative also aims to bolster regional supply chains and support improved circularity within British Columbia’s construction sector.
“By combining Rio Tinto’s low-carbon aluminium production in British Columbia with RevoCast’s recycling and casting capabilities, we can provide North American manufacturers with a reliable supply of high-quality billet produced closer to their operations,” said Matt Schicke, Vice President of Aluminium Sales and Marketing at Rio Tinto.
He noted that the partnership strengthens the company’s ability to assist customers in raising the recycled and low-carbon content of their products whilst building more resilient value chains.
RevoCast President and CEO Thomas Martini described the agreement as an important milestone, noting that it marries the company’s advanced remelting operations with Rio Tinto’s global market reach and technical expertise.
The joint effort expands regional access to sustainable materials whilst reinforcing the overall strength and reliability of North America’s broader aluminium supply chain.
