AusIMM’s annual flagship Australian Mining Week (AMW, 12-16 October) has commenced in London, convening decision-makers and executives from global mining, finance, government and advisory organisations to showcase Australia’s resources leadership and expertise on the world stage.
Now in its fifth year, AMW is developed and hosted by AusIMM, the peak body and trusted leader for resources professionals. The week will highlight Australia’s resources sector as a trusted supplier, standards leader and destination for resources investment, as well as its role as a catalyst for economic, strategic and scientific development to advance the country’s national interest.
A highlight of the week is AusIMM’s Thought Leadership Series at Australia House (13 Oct), with guests to be welcomed by The Hon Jay Weatherill AO, Australia’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.
The week also includes a one-day Critical Minerals Forum (14 Oct), the inaugural Western Australia State of Energy Forum (15 Oct), FINEX 2026 (15 Oct), plus executive roundtables and networking opportunities. Together, these events position Australia at the centre of international conversations on critical minerals, strategic resources, trusted leadership and future talent.
AusIMM CEO Stephen Durkin FAusIMM said: “Australian Mining Week highlights Australia’s world-class resources leadership in an era of economic uncertainty and global competition for strategic resources.”
“In this environment, the leadership of Australia’s resources professionals is more important than ever. Their expertise is essential for further strengthening Australia’s global standing as a trusted supplier, and advancing our national prosperity through creating long-term economic and social value.
“As the peak body for resources professionals, AusIMM is proud to convene and showcase this expertise at Australian Mining Week in London – a global hub for mining leadership and resources investment.”
Speakers and participants across AMW span leaders from mining and METS, government, finance, consulting and technology.
Tuesday’s Thought Leadership Series panel, led by Stephen Durkin, will feature Rohitesh Dhawan (President and CEO, ICMM), Catherine Raw (Chief Development Officer, BHP) and Georgie Bezette (Chief People Officer, Rio Tinto). The discussion will explore trust, leadership and future talent in the next era of mining.
The Critical Minerals Forum on Wednesday will examine the strategic imperatives reshaping capital models for critical minerals. The Forum will feature keynote presentations from Chris McCleave (CTO, Vale Base Metals) and Dr Francis Wedin FAusIMM (Executive Chair, Vulcan), followed by panels on investment, technology, innovation, diplomacy and social performance.
On Thursday, AusIMM and the Western Australian government will host leaders from industry and finance to provide expert insights on the opportunities, partnerships and investment environment positioning Western Australia as a secure and reliable supplier of strategic resources.
AMW has secured strong backing from global organisations including Accenture, Byrnecut, Fleet Space Technologies, Sandvik and Sedgman; together with support from the Australian and Western Australian governments and peak bodies, the Minerals Council of Australia and Austmine.
