Lithium developer LibertyStream Infrastructure Partners Inc. has delivered its first tonne of technical-grade lithium carbonate to an industrial customer in the US.
The delivery originated from the company’s joint direct lithium extraction (DLE) unit and refining facility located at a Select Water Solutions site in Howard County, Texas.
By meeting the client’s strict technical specifications, LibertyStream has transitioned its Permian Basin operations from on-site testing and production into formal commercial delivery.
The milestone serves as an important validation step for LibertyStream’s broader customer qualification process. The company is actively extracting and refining lithium directly from high-volume oilfield brines, leveraging existing wastewater infrastructure from the oil and gas sector to drastically reduce capital costs and environmental footprints.
Following the ahead-of-schedule construction and commissioning of the Texas refining unit in March, the facility is now engineered to produce both technical and high-purity battery-grade lithium carbonate.
“We are proud of the pace of lithium carbonate production at Select’s site,” said Alex Wylie, President and CEO of LibertyStream.
“Delivery of our first tonne of lithium carbonate achieving the required technical specifications, is another successful significant milestone by the entire LibertyStream team.
“With production now underway, we are positioned to reach an annualised production capability of up to 1,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate by the end of 2026.”
The successful first-tonne delivery de-risks LibertyStream’s broader strategic plan, which aims to replicate this plug-and-play modular DLE extraction model across other major North American hydrocarbon regions, including the Bakken formation.
With active production now established, the Howard County site will serve as LibertyStream’s core validation platform.
The company is currently advancing site preparations to scale up the project to feed into the rapidly growing domestic clean energy supply chain.
