Platina Resources has identified new gold zones stretching over one kilometre at its Mt McKenna gold project in Western Australia’s highly prospective Laverton gold district.
The discovery follows the completion of 10,809 metres of shallow aircore drilling, spanning 220 holes across two consecutive exploration phases.
The drilling campaign focused heavily on the project’s Granite Well East prospect, uncovering multiple shallow, high-grade gold zones.
Key drill hits at the newly identified Granite Well East target area include a standout intercept of 1 metre at 7.10 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from 40 metres, which ended just 1 metre above the bottom of the hole.
Further thick results from the same zone returned 7 metres at 0.61 g/t gold from 36 metres, including a higher-grade pocket of 2 metres at 1.41 g/t gold, with mineralisation remaining entirely open at the bottom of the hole.
Significant findings were also reported at Target 2, where drilling hit 4 metres at 4.69 g/t gold from 16 metres along a key geological contact.
The program successfully defined an 800-metre structural gold trend at the Black Rock Prospect, strongly supported by highly elevated arsenic “pathfinder” values.
Platina CEO Corey Nolan said: “The multiple mineralised zones identified within the southern drilling area are highly encouraging and provide strong evidence for a potentially much larger gold system beneath the weathered profile.
“The presence of significant gold mineralisation at or near the bottom of several aircore holes highlights the opportunity for deeper discoveries and provides strong support for follow-up reverse circulation (RC) drilling.”
To accelerate deeper testing, Platina has secured a AU$109,200 funding grant under the WA government’s Co-funded Exploration Drilling Program.
The financial boost will back an upcoming 13-hole RC drilling campaign designed to target the deeper root extensions of the structures later this year.
