Silver Mines Ltd. has initiated a major board restructuring, strengthening its board as the company advances its Bowdens silver project through the final approvals pathway toward full development.
The company appointed experienced mining executive Nicole Brook and former Federal Cabinet Minister Joel Fitzgibbon as independent non-executive directors, effective September 17.
Brook brings more than 30 years of resource industry experience, having previously held senior technical governance and business development roles at Glencore Coal Australia.
A former President of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, she currently serves on the boards of Whitehaven Coal Ltd. and EQ Resources Ltd.
Fitzgibbon joins the board after serving 26 years in Federal Parliament, during which he held high-profile Cabinet portfolios, including Minister for Defence and Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
He also previously served as Shadow Minister for Resources, providing extensive background in resources policy, regional development, and government relations.
Notably, his former parliamentary electorate of Hunter once encompassed the local regions surrounding the Bowdens project.
The company also confirmed long-standing Chair Keith Perrett will retire following the annual general meeting in November after 10 years of service.
Fitzgibbon will succeed Perrett as independent Non-Executive Chair at the conclusion of the meeting.
To support an orderly transition, Perrett will remain involved as a consultant, offering strategic advice regarding the company’s agricultural operations.
Managing Director Jo Battershill stated that the board enhancements position Silver Mines with the necessary technical, corporate governance, and political expertise to navigate the next stage of corporate growth.
“The completion of the definitive feasibility study was a significant milestone for the company and provides a strong foundation as we continue to advance the project through the approvals pathway and towards development,” Battershill said.
“These appointments ensure Silver Mines has the right skills and experience to support the next stage of the company’s growth.”
The Bowdens silver project remains one of the world’s largest undeveloped silver deposits.
