The Western Australian government has awarded AU$846,700 to five local projects under Round 8 of the Regional Economic Development (RED) Grants program.
The funding aims to support regional economic diversification, create long-term employment opportunities, and strengthen the sustainability of the Pilbara’s business landscape.
The successful initiatives span diverse sectors, including manufacturing, tourism, hospitality, and civil contracting, reflecting the government’s commitment to building a more resilient regional economy.
Regional Development Minister Stephen Dawson hailed the investment, noting that the selected projects are vital for long-term community benefits.
“It’s particularly encouraging to see projects that support advanced manufacturing, tourism and Aboriginal economic participation all of which are key to building a more resilient and sustainable Pilbara,” Dawson said.
The five recipients represent a broad geographical and industrial spread across the region.
Port Hedland company Inline Engineering Services Pty Ltd has received AU$196,700 in funding to deliver an upgrade in polyurethane conveyor component processing, enhancing local manufacturing capabilities for the resources sector.
Gumala Investments Pty Ltd will use its AU$250,000 to expand the popular Karijini Eco Retreat, increasing accommodation capacity to support the growth of sustainable tourism within the national park.
Kaos Holding WA Pty Ltd received AU$150,000 to revitalise the Karratha CBD and support the establishment of an upmarket café to improve local amenity and increase town centre activity.
East‑West Pilbara Rubber Recycling Pty Ltd will progress the development of a high‑value rubber export industry through end‑of‑life mining tyre recycling. This will help divert large volumes of rubber waste from landfill and create new value‑added manufacturing opportunities in the region.
Tjamu Tjamu (Aboriginal Corporation) RNTBC received AU$125,000 to help establish a civil contracting social enterprise in the remote community of Kiwirrkurra, providing critical skills development and local jobs.
“These investments build on the Pilbara’s strong economic foundations and support emerging industries that will shape the region’s future,” said Pilbara Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson.
