Tivan Ltd. has secured government approval to expand its Baucau copper-gold project in Timor-Leste, capturing a large-scale regional magnetic anomaly.
Under an approval granted by Timor-Leste’s National Mineral Authority, Autoridade Nacional dos Minerais (ANM), Tivan has added approximately 50 square kilometres of prospective contiguous ground immediately east of its existing concession.
The enlarged licence incorporates a prominent regional magnetic anomaly measuring roughly 2.5 kilometres by one kilometre.
Geological mapping indicates the feature sits along the direct continuation of the prospective structural corridor recognised within the original tenure, exhibiting magnetic responses similar to priority copper-gold targets across the project.
The Baucau project sits in a regional geological setting renowned for host deposits similar to world-class porphyry and volcanogenic massive sulphide systems across neighbouring Papua New Guinea and Indonesia.
“An exciting development for Tivan,” said the company’s Executive Chairman Grant Wilson.
“Today’s announcement complements outcomes achieved over the past month: we acquired an option to extend the Baucau Project to the west and we succeeded in the competitive award of a concession to the north of the Turiscai Project.”
“These are important consolidative steps, ensuring that Tivan’s head start in Timor-Leste is retained.”
To support the expanded campaign, Tivan has promoted Senior Geologist George Manton to Principal Geologist – Timor-Leste, placing dedicated senior technical leadership on the ground.
The company has also expanded its local operational team to 11 staff members, with recruitment underway for three additional field geologists and local community officers.
Following the expansion, Tivan will prioritise systematic field evaluation across the newly acquired area.
Initial programs will include geological mapping, targeted surface geochemical sampling, and high-resolution geophysical surveys over the large magnetic target to refine future drilling locations.
