A business formed to develop technologies that can produce helium-3 – the fuel of nuclear fusion, a potential future energy for Earth – and a mining industry wellbeing software app creator are leading the way in the resources, energy, defence and space sectors, being named in the CORE Hot 30 list of top innovators.
The nation’s hottest 30 innovators were inducted at the CORE Exchange 2020 conference yesterday afternoon, featuring a list of who’s who in SME energy, resources, mining, space and defence industries.
The Hot 30 businesses were announced at CORE Exchange 2020, a virtual national conference and technology showcase highlighting ingenuity in the resources sector, featuring guest speakers from SEA Gas, Fleet Space and OZ Minerals, discussing their innovation roadmaps despite the challenges of COVID-19.
CORE Innovation Hub – Australia’s first collaboration and innovation hub focused on the resources industry – facilitated CORE Exchange 2020, where participants took part in a live Q&A and met some of the founders of the successful Hot 30 businesses to talk about innovative practices in a diverse range of industries across the nation, creating an opportunity to meet like-minded businesses and potential partners.
CORE Exchange 2020 participants also voted for a Hot 30 business they would choose to hypothetically invest $50,000 in.
The winner will be crowned as the Hot 30 People’s Choice and win a cash prize to support its business growth at a later date.
CORE National Innovation Hub Manager, Renee Hakendorf, said the Hot 30 was a veritable list of the nation’s top innovators in developing industries, contributing to the vibrancy of the sector and offering fresh ideas.
“We’ve seen some fantastic ideas come to the fore as part of the Hot 30, and most of the SMEs involved just haven’t put themselves in the spotlight until now,” Ms Hakendorf said.
“They’re starting to stand up and let their innovations speak for themselves, and by joining CORE Exchange 2020, they’ve been able to tell their stories, meet the larger industry organisations and government representatives, and hopefully initiate some collaborations with like-minded potential partners.”
“This is their time to celebrate their achievements in a challenging year and make connections to help them build a stronger business in 2021.”
The inaugural CORE Hot 30 winners were selected through a process which identified ventures that were ripe for growth within the next one to three years.
Applications were open to companies with an ABN and an Australian HQ. CORE considered company size, growth factors, success attracting investors and the team involved.
