Pacific Lime and Cement Ltd. has commenced a strategic review of its wholly-owned Star Mountains copper-gold project in Papua New Guinea, following a surge of inbound interest from global investors.
The strategic review is consistent with the company’s focus on advancing the development of its flagship Central Lime and Cement projects.
By seeking well-capitalised counterparties, PLC aims to unlock the massive scale of Star Mountains through potential joint ventures, strategic partnerships, or capital markets transactions.
Located just 25 kilometres from the world-class Ok Tedi mine, Star Mountains sits within one of the most prolific mineral belts on the planet.
The project is home to a JORC (2012) Inferred Mineral Resource of approximately 450 million tonnes at 0.5 per cent copper equivalent.
While the resource was originally calculated using 2018 price assumptions, US$3.00/lb for copper and US$1,200/oz for gold, the company noted that current market prices have significantly increased the asset’s attractiveness.
The deposit remains anchored by high-grade, near-surface ore, with historical drilling returning standout intercepts such as 596 metres at 0.61 per cent copper and 0.85 grams per tonne of gold.
The decision to review the project stems from PLC’s commitment to its integrated lime and cement platform, which aims to provide essential building materials for PNG and the wider Asia-Pacific.
With over 15 years of operational experience in Papua New Guinea, PLC emphasised that any future partnership would continue to prioritise local landowners and stakeholders.
The company currently manages a diversified portfolio that includes industrial sands, renewable energy, and nature-based carbon credits, supporting its commitment to delivering cleaner, long-term solutions that build enduring value for PNG and its communities.
