Galileo Mining Ltd (ASX: GAL) is set to commence a new drilling campaign at its highly prospective Norseman Project in Western Australia, with operations scheduled to begin in a little over a week.
The program will focus on expanding the project’s palladium and platinum resources, following up on a series of encouraging assay results from earlier exploration.
The upcoming drill program will target high-grade hits at the Mission Sill prospect, adjacent to the significant Callisto discovery made in 2022.
Key intercepts to be followed up include a peak palladium assay of 4.1 g/t and a platinum assay of 2.5 g/t over one metre in hole NAC617, as well as broader zones of anomalous platinum group elements (PGEs).
Notable results include:
- 4 metres at 1.12 g/t 3E (palladium, platinum, gold) from 26 metres in NAC516, including 1 metre at 2.27 g/t 3E from 28 metres
- 6 metres at 0.73 g/t 3E from 1 metre in NAC588, including 1 metre at 1.03 g/t 3E from 2 metres
The Norseman Project has already demonstrated proven prospectivity for PGEs, highlighted by the 2022 discovery of the 17.5 million tonne Callisto resource, which contains a current JORC-compliant resource of 1.27 million ounces palladium-equivalent (PdEq).
Galileo’s Managing Director, Brad Underwood, expressed confidence in the project’s potential, stating: “We are excited to be back drilling at our Norseman project, where the prospectivity for palladium and platinum was proven with the discovery of the Callisto deposit in 2022.
“Our upcoming drill program aims to further define the outstanding results from our Mission Sill prospect with the ultimate ambition of adding to our existing PGE resources at Norseman.
Underwood said the company is uniquely positioned as one of the few Australian explorers with a PGE deposit, and highlighted the strategic location of the Norseman project at the southern end of Western Australia’s renowned Goldfields region.
He added that Galileo’s strong financial backing and exploration focus put it in an excellent position to pursue new resource discoveries and unlock further value from its prospective tenements as drilling gets underway.
The drill program is expected to cover approximately 5,000 metres and aims to deliver new assay results by late August, potentially paving the way for further resource extensions and new discoveries at Norseman.
